Oxy Peroxide Cleaner

I use the oxy peroxide cleaner for most of my general cleaning and have had great successs with the stuff. I tried it on the glass of shower enclosures and it removed the soap scum and mold like a champ, but did not remove somthing on the glass that looked like tiny jigsaw puzzle pieces. I then tried a non-green product (windex) and that didn't remove it either. I am assuming this must be some type of mineral deposit. Anyone know what this stuff is and what I can use to get rid of it. I ended up using a standard product that did the job but I almost passed out from the fumes.

Thanks,

Forum: General Suggestions, Questions and Comments

Restroom air fresheners

We will be eliminating air fresheners from our toilets that use batteries and propellants to distribute the deodorant.

I am looking at alternative tecnhologies and am hoping others may have experience and / or recommendations to suggest.

I've had 'TCell airfresheners' proposed as this technology uses no batteries and the deodorant does not contain VOC's or propellants - that's the direction I want to head in, but is this the optimum solution?

Forum: General Suggestions, Questions and Comments

compostable gloves??

In an effort to take "green" a little further, I'm thinking of discontinuing the use of latex gloves. The cost is minimal, but I hate the idea of all the gloves being thrown away. My staff seems to prefer them over rubber gloves, which we also have access to.
Does anyone know of a compostable glove, or some other reasonable and green alternative?

Forum: General Suggestions, Questions and Comments

to polish or not to polish???

We are about to commence rolling out green cleaning across our campus with our new contractors.

One of the modified cleaning methods I want to see is the elimination of periodic stripping and polishing of resilient floors like marmoleum, concrete and timber.

One of our new contractors maintains that if you eliminate polishing there is a commensurate increase in requirement for mopping and other maintenance tasks, which essentially outweigh the benefits of eliminating polishing.

Does anyone have experience of this - in particular if you have eliminated polishing some time back and have had the opportunity to observe the results, do the floors require more regular mopping or other activities?

I'm keen to see us get rid of the use of the hazardous materials used in the stripping and polishing process, but if this results in blowing out our cleaning budget, or constant complaints from clients, then I will lose senior management support and the whole exercise will be counterproductive.

Forum: General Suggestions, Questions and Comments

LEED - EB: O&M 2009

If green cleaning is supposed to have a major impact on indoor air quality, then why has the 2009 ballot come out with green cleaning points cut in half?

Now, instead of being encouraged to find and use 90% approved products for 3 points, it's a mere 30% for one possible point. Same for the effectiveness assessment. So basically, we can now through in recycled content paper and a few HEPA vacs and say it's a full blown program? I'm concerned this is making the green cleaning efforts too simplified so that companies who are not actually educated on the subject can now do enough to "get by."

I may be way off base here, but it brings up concern for those of us who've done the research for years now, actually taken real measures to put green procedures and purchases in place, and gone through the effort of doing this right.

Granted, this may not end up passing, but what impact will it have if it does?

Forum: LEED-EB Update
